Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. If you're a coach and you're determined to start making more money, this show is for you. I'm master certified life coach Susan Hyatt, and I'm psyched for you to join me on this journey.

Hey, coaches. So, do you ever feel like, “I’m not very original? I’m not really bringing anything new to my industry. Everything I’ve ever wanted to do, somebody else has already done it. I don’t really have a fresh or revolutionary message to share. I’m just kind of saying the same stuff as everybody else.”

Do those sound like the thoughts in your head? Maybe you feel that way sometimes. Or maybe you feel like other coaches are way more impressive or exciting than you are. Like somehow you just don’t measure up. Well, if you think that way, this episode is for you. Keep listening and here we go.

Now, y’all know I’m obsessed with my Peloton bike. I know, I know, I know, you’re probably like, “Oh my god, Susan, enough about Peloton already. We get it. You love your Peloton.” Okay, but bear with me. I have a new story for you today.

Quick intro for those who don’t know, Peloton is a fitness brand that makes stationary bikes, treadmills, workout videos so you can sweat along from home. And they have over 30 instructors who lead all different kinds of workouts. And each instructor brings their own flavor to the party.

Robyn Arzón, one of my favorites, she’s fierce as hell and she’ll push you to the max. Cody is hilarious and always gets you cracking up while you’re pedaling. He is seriously my entertainment. And he’s my go-to. I actually ride with Cody more than anybody. Ally, she might seem demure and soft-spoken at first, but listen, you get her on those intervals and arms, or watch out when she gets those country jams going.

So, here’s something I noticed. At least once during every Peloton ride, the instructor will remind you about the correct posture that you need to adopt for safety and best results. And every single instructor gives the same exact cue; slide your butt to the back of the seat. But every instructor has a slightly different way of delivering this cue.

One says, “Scoop back to the widest part of the saddle.” Another says, “Glide back an inch or two until your spine feels nice and long.” And another says, “You should have a grabbable amount of ass hanging off the back of your seat.”

So, isn’t it fascinating how 30 people can deliver the same exact message in 30 slightly different ways? They’re all saying the same thing; scoot your butt to the back of the seat. Exact same message but 30 different ways. Different wording, different tone, different feeling. And depending on who you are, your body type, personality, or how you’re feeling that day on the bike, you’re going to resonate with certain instructors more than others.

Maybe when you hear, “Glide back,” that doesn’t quite work for you. But when you hear, “Grabbable amount of ass,” something clicks and you’re like, “Oh, got it. That makes sense now.” This is something every coach needs to remember.

Look, you might be delivering a service that a million other people are delivering too. You’re doing life coaching, money coaching, relationship coaching, wellness coaching, just like thousands of other coaches. And you might be sharing a timeless message that’s been shared a million times before.

But you’re going to do it with your own communication style, with your own special flair, with your own spirit. And certain clients and customers will flock to you because of that something special that you bring.

There’s room in the world for Robin and Cody and Ally and dozens of other Peloton teachers. And there’s room in the coaching industry for me and for thousands of other coaches like you too. There’s room for you. And someone out there needs that special twist that only you bring.

As a coach, maybe you’re sharing a message of self-care, a message about putting yourself first, a message about following that spark of curiosity inside of you, a message about saying no when things feel inauthentic.

You might think, “So many people are sharing the exact same message though. I feel like a copycat. I’m just so boring.” Nope, you are not boring. You are sharing an important and timeless message that people need to hear and you’re going to share that message in your own way and you’re going to express yourself in a way that turns off some people and turns on other people. Never forget that. Pep-talk complete.

Also, I literally can’t stop saying, “Grabbable amount of ass…” and then cracking up. It’s the best.

It’s time for some community wins. And listen, I love to brag. You know what, it ain’t bragging if it’s true. So, this is where I share wins and victories and beautiful accomplishments from y’all, from people inside Rich Coach Club, from people inside my Quick Start, On the 6, or The Mastermind.

I just love talking about what y’all are doing well. And so, here I have for you Brenda. So, Brenda is a current Quick Start member. Now, remember, Quick Start is my eight-week live mastermind that goes with the in-demand digital product. If you haven’t heard about it, you should check it out. We run it every eight weeks.

So, Brenda said, “This has been a big week for me and I just wanted to share some wins with you. I completed the final draft of my lead magnet and I’ve sent it to the writer to proof and edit for me. I just made a new sale yesterday with a corporate client for $4000. They’re hiring me to do some resilience training. I also just got confirmation today that my other corporate client has agreed to an additional upsell of $4400 to extend my workshops from 60 to 90 minutes each. So, the original invoice I gave them back in December was for $9600 but now it’s gone up to $14,000.” Hello.

She goes on to say that she’s publicly launching her online Happiness Habits course in February, which is this month. And that she feels like she’s building up great momentum with the help of the Quick Start program and just wanted to share these wins and say thank you to the Quick Start team for all the encouragement. Brenda, we are so proud of you. You are going the work and it is paying off. Who doesn’t love 14K? I love me some 14K. congratulations.

So, hey, if you’re listening to this and you want to learn more about Quick Start, check the show notes. If you’re not a member of the Rich Coach Club Facebook group yet, get yourself in there.

I know some of y’all have been throwing shade online about Facebook groups. But guess what? Mine is amazing. We run all kinds of challenges in there. we give away prizes in there. This is not a boring Facebook group. So, it’s like getting $10,000 worth of business coaching for free. So, get in there.

Okay, and now it’s time for the review of the week. You know, I have been podcasting for years. And when somebody takes the time, even if I’ve bribed them, if somebody takes the time to go and leave a podcast review, you have no idea how much it delights me and my team.

So, I want to say thank you to Sherri Bradfield for posting this review and then also emailing my team to let us know about it. She gave us a five-star review and titled this Fuel Your Own Energy.

So, she writes, “They are studying wave energy off the coast of Oregon. Waves produce massive amounts of power and the concept is to tap that to produce energy for the world. They’re hoping wave energy could supply 10% of the world’s electricity in the future. Listening and applying Susan Hyatt’s advice produces 100% of the energy I need for my week. Sometimes concepts may be out there…”

I’m laughing, Sheri, “Sometimes concepts may be out-there, but if you stick to your gut instinct, maybe, just maybe that wave becomes a tsunami in your life that helps produce positive energy for others too.”

Listen, thank you. I’m always here for the out-there advice. And I appreciate you listening to the show. I love giving shoutouts to everyone in my community so don’t be shy, we might even mail a gift to you if you take the time to write in or post a review, like the Go-Time Day Planner, or I don’t know if you’ve seen my Red Bubble shop, but we have miracle maker mugs and t-shirts, bajillionaire products. Y’all, we have everything from shower curtains to journals. It’s amazing.

But I might send you some of that for free if you leave me a review. Anyway, thank you for the love. I love you right back.

Okay, one more thing before the end of todays show. We’ve been talking about originality and sharing your message and doing it your way. This is literally how I’ve built my business, just tapping into the essence of myself and sprinkling that on everything that I do.

Here’s a quote that I love, “Originality is simply a pair of fresh eyes.” That quote comes from Thomas Higginson. I love that because to me, this means that originality doesn’t necessarily mean you are completely reinventing the wheel or doing something that’s never been done before.

It can simply mean you bring a fresh pair of eyes to a classic timeless message. An old gem shared in a new way. Also, do y’all know about Thomas W. Higginson? We need to talk about this guy for a second. Quick history lesson.

Thomas Wentworth Higginson was a colonel in the Civil War and later a unitarian minister. He was a feminist. He was a poet. He gave sermon about racial justice when he criticized his white brothers for being too apathetic at the treatment of Black people in America.

He wrote articles about why women should be given the right to vote. He went door to door to educate people about civil rights. He joined the Boston Vigilance Committee, an organization whose purpose was to protect fugitive slaves from pursuit and capture.

He dedicated his entire life to supporting disenfranchised people and creating liberation. And he also had a pretty amazing mustache and beard. I’m just saying.

People, we need more White men like Thomas out there, right? Moms, tell your sons to read about this guy and get inspired. Everyone, find your inner Higginson and go make a scene in the world. Be a leader. Do the right thing even when no one’s watching.

Pound the pavement and get your message out there, even if that means going door to door or Zoom to Zoom or delivering sermons every Sunday. Go spread the good word.

Okay, thank you for listening to today’s episode. I hope that it reminded you that it’s okay if you’re a coach and there’s 50,000 other certified coaches out there, there’s room for you. There’s room for everyone. And you’re going to deliver your message with a special twist, like nobody else on Earth.

And if you want to – I keep joking that I’m going to run a class called How to Not Be Boring, because you’re not. Some of y’all are sleeping on yourselves though. If you want to be with coaches and you want to learn new tricks, new tips, everything from how to get on Clubhouse to how to finish your book, I am so excited to announce that I am hosting something I’m calling The Ultimate Coaching Convention Online.

So, we all miss being together in person. And back in the day, I used to coordinate coaching conventions for Martha Beck. And it was always a hit because who doesn’t love to be with their people. And all of the coaching organizations out there, mine included, have postponed live events until it’s safe. And it got me thinking, what if I hosted the University for Life Coach Training, my life coach training school, what if we hosted a coaching convention online?

And so, that’s what we’re doing. It’s April 8th and 9th and I’m bringing together the brightest voices for panel presentations, breakout workshop sessions. It’s going to be so much fun. I’m going to put the link in the show notes for you. You’ll want to get in on it because we have an early bird special happening where you get $47 off the ticket.

But if you just go to shyatt.com/ucc2021, The Ultimate Coaching Convention sales page is there. And again, it’s Thursday April 8th and Friday April 9th. You’re going to be able to pick a track and pick which talks you want to attend. It’s all happening online for the coaching industry.

And again, we’re going to have panel presentations for new coaches, for seasoned coaches, for those of you listening who are curious about becoming a coach, and then breakout sessions and workshops about diversity, equity, and inclusion, marketing for social media, the latest in social media marketing, podcasting, so you want to write a book, how to get press, how to become the best coach ever, and more.

So, if you want to get an infusion of fresh ideas to become the best coach you can be, or you are totally into personal development and you’re considering becoming a life coach, this is for you.

So, it’s brought to you by the University for Life Coach Training. I’m so proud of the university and the faculty that I’ve assembled. And so, if you want to attend, get your booty over to the sales page and I will see you at The Ultimate Coaching Conference.

Enjoy The Show?

XOXO,
Susan
