Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. If you’re a coach and you’re determined to start making more money, this show is for you. I’m master certified life coach Susan Hyatt, and I’m psyched for you to join me on this journey.
Oh hello. So, if you’ve listened to the show for a while, you’ve probably heard me say, “You’ve got to feel rich to get rich.” Coaches, this is not just a cute-sounding phrase. This is the truth. When you feel emotionally rich, people can sense it. You radiate a level of happiness, satisfaction, and generosity that’s completely evident.
It shines through everything that you do, it’s inspiring, it’s beautiful, and it definitely makes people want to hire you. I mean, come on, if you’re thinking about hiring someone like a coach, do you want to hire the anxious person who gives off a desperate vibe, or the relaxed happy person who has such a generous spirit?
Duh, the choice is obvious. Bottom line, when you feel rich, then it becomes so much easier to attract clients and sell your work and generate all the money that you want. There’s a direct connection between how you feel about life and how much money you make, and the beauty is it really doesn’t matter how much money is currently sitting in your bank account.
Feeling rich is all about your inner world, your perspective on life. Not your bank balance. You can do things to feel rich and to create a luxurious feeling home, office, and life, even if you’re working with a very limited budget. That’s what today’s episode is all about so listen closely and don’t go anywhere. Get ready to feel so much richer starting right now.
We’re starting with a segment that I call your two-minute pep talk, and this is the part of the show where I share some motivation and encouragement to get your week started off right. And I try to keep things to two minutes or less.
When I bring guests onto this show, I always love to ask them what’s something that doesn’t cost any money or that costs very little money that makes you feel rich? I love hearing people’s answers to this question because everyone says something a little different. For me, personally, when my pantry is stocked up with tons of candles and toilet paper, like, enough candles and toilet paper to last for the whole month or beyond, damn, it just makes me feel so rich because I remember what it was like to go buy a single roll because that’s all the money I had.
I open that cupboard, I see all those rolls of the expensive toilet paper in there and I’m like, oh yeah, I’m doing great, life is good. But maybe for you it’s not toilet paper. Maybe it’s something else. So here are three ideas for you, three ways you could feel rich today, regardless of how much money you’ve got in your bank account right this second.
Number one, declutter. Clutter is so suffocating and it drains your energy. Decluttering your home immediately brightens the space and makes everything feel so much more luxurious. Jennifer Kim, an amazing business and branding coach that I interviewed on one of my earlier episodes, she often talks about simple elegance. That’s one of her favorite phrases and I love this phrase too.
How could you strip clutter out of your space to create that feeling of simple elegance? That’s rich. Do it. Declutter your closet, your bedroom, your office, your schedule, your brain. Clear that crap off of your desk. You will immediately feel richer. you can listen to episode 73, Transform Your Workspace into a Money Magnet for some awesome decluttering and interior decor ideas.
Number two, put one beautiful item in your workspace. Alright, so once you’ve decluttered your space, choose one beautiful item and put it in your workspace. A beautiful framed photo of your mom, grandma, or another badass woman who inspires you. Or a vase of flowers, or one beautiful candle. One gorgeous crystal, a plant, whatever you want.
I’m not choosing a plant because little secret is I can nurture humans and businesses but not green things, so I have a black thumb. Make your workspace feel beautiful so that when you step inside, you feel inspired, you feel happy to get to work, you feel like a rich boss.
Number three, do something generous for someone else, no strings attached. Alright, so truly rich people, meaning people who are financially rich, as well as emotionally and spiritually rich tend to be very generous people. These are the kinds of people who give to charities. They host fundraisers, they spend time on service missions, helping people in third-world countries, they do big favors and open doors for their colleagues.
They mentor young rising stars in their industry. They use their money, their voices, and their personal power to lift other people higher and higher. That’s true richness. That’s what real wealth is all about.
So even if you’re not a millionaire or a billionaire, even if you’ve got very little money right now, you still have a great deal of power. You still have the ability to change the world and you can start by changing one person’s life. So if you want to feel rich, do something generous for someone you love, or for a stranger. No expectations, no strings attached.
Like what? Well, you could nominate your best friend for an award. Wow, talk about generous. You could post a beautiful comment on your colleague’s blog. You could teach a free class on meditation, self-care, or yoga at your child’s middle school. You could introduce a fellow coach to someone they ought to meet and make a helpful business connection for them.
There are so many things you could do, and it’s incredibly how your generosity boomerangs right back to you, coming back to your life tenfold. Okay peeps, those are just three little ideas for you. The big question is what makes you feel rich? Brainstorm and make a list of your own ideas and do them.
Put flowers in your bedroom, declutter your closet, cancel your plans and enjoy a luxurious nap. I’m not doing that because I am a terrible napper. Not because I don’t believe in naps but because I wake up like a cranky old bitch after naps so I don’t take them.
Do a big favor for a friend, mentor a kid. Whatever makes you feel emotionally rich, satisfied, content, happy, and powerful, do that. When you feel rich, it shows. People see it, people feel it, people want to be around you and hire you. Feel rich to get rich, boo. It’s real, this shit works, and that is your pep talk of the week.
Now we’re moving into the part of the show where I give shout-outs to you. Shout-outs to all y’all listeners, clients, all the wonderful people in my business community. And today, I want to give a shout-out to Susie.
So Susie gave me a five-star review and she says, “I’ll listen to anything this woman puts out into the world. Seriously, Susan Hyatt is changing the world one female mindset at a time. As a woman who struggled with eating disorders and body image for the first part of my life, her work has resonated with me. However, my disordered eating days are behind me and now as a coach, I am digging this amazingly informative, empowering podcast. Hurray. Adding this quote that came from her interview with Brooke Castillo, the quote is, ‘I want to get to the end of my life and be able to say my life called and I answered,’ so powerful. Subscribe and have the best year of your life.”
Susie, that made my day. Thank you so much. And hey, if you have something to say about this show, please send an email to [email protected], or post a five-star iTunes review, or a review on Stitcher or Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts and you might hear your name on a future episode. I love giving shout-outs to people in my community, so holler at me. Thank you for the love, I love you right back.
Hey, one more quick thing before we wrap up today’s episode. This idea comes from Theresa Reed, AKA the tarot lady, AKA, my favorite tarot reader and astrologer on the planet. So also, she did the astro glances for my Go Time Planner. Anyway, whenever Theresa gets a negative review or an icky troll comment about one of her products, guess what she does?
She immediately goes online and posts a positive review for a product that she loves. She takes that negative energy and flips it around. Boom. Theresa says by doing this, it’s like neutralizing all the negative vibes. Instead of getting stressed about the negativity, she just trots along and does something to spread positivity.
Fighting the darkness with light. Doing this immediately makes her feel better, more powerful, richer. I love this. You can totally take this same approach with your coaching practice and your money. For instance, maybe you’re having a tough week with your coaching business. Money isn’t flowing in, you’re feeling stressed, you’re not feeling very rich.
Instead of wallowing in that panicky mood, flip it around. Do something that makes you feel rich. For instance, do something generous for someone else, or give yourself a gift that makes you feel emotionally rich. Flip the energy all the way around. People aren’t buying your latest book? You’ve got stacks of books laying around your living room? What would a rich person do? Probably donate 100 copies to local schools and libraries, so go do that.
You’ve got a customer who’s raising a ruckus and demanding a refund? Well, you could introduce a colleague to a potential client and help them get hired. Boom. Suddenly, you feel powerful, influential, and rich again. No matter what’s going on in your coaching business, you can always make the decision to feel and behave like a rich, affluent person.
It feels so good to do this. It brings the power back into your hands, and it has an amazing way of flipping the energy around and changing your situation very quickly. Feel rich to get rich, peeps. I can’t emphasize this enough. The richer you feel, the happier you’ll feel, and the more money you will make.
Thank you for listening to today’s episode. This week, I challenge you to do one thing or several things that make you feel rich. This might involve decluttering your space, it might mean taking the afternoon off and enjoying a long, luxurious nap. That won’t be me. It might mean doing something philanthropic. That’s probably me.
It could mean spritzing on your favorite perfume or lighting a candle. Whatever you need to do or want to do, whatever helps you feel rich, do it. This will make you an even better coach. More present, more relaxed, happier, more creative, and it will magnetize clients and opportunities to you. Fill your life with richness, whatever that means for you.
For me, Nespresso pods, toilet paper, and candles. That’s a pretty fun homework assignment, right? Thanks again for listening and I’ll see you next week.
