You Need More Pleasure

Subscribe via iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play or RSS

When it comes to pleasure, y’all better know that I understood the assignment.

If you see me on social media, dripping in Gucci, spoiling my dogs, or tending to the roses in my lush-ass garden, that’s because I know that the more pleasure I have, the more money I make.

Pleasure means different things to different people.

It can be a five-course meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant or grilling up some steaks in your yard. (I love both!)

It can be slipping on a pair of designer heels or cozying into your heated PJs. (I also love both of these pleasures!)

The point is: I want you to indulge in as much pleasure as possible. Whatever pleasure means to you. You NEED more pleasure.

Why? Because most women are starving for pleasure. I know because I used to be one of those women.

Society wants us to remain distracted, hating our bodies, and keeping our mouths shut. The patriarchy knows that if women have more pleasure, they gain more power.

And that’s why: PLEASURE IS NOT OPTIONAL.

Dive into this important episode and learn all about pleasure without feeling a pang of guilt.

What You’ll Learn from this Episode:

  • The different forms of pleasure.
  • The life-changing – and world-changing – magic of pleasure.
  • How to incorporate pleasure into your week by committing to “Fun Fridays.”
  • How indulging in pleasure helps you smash the patriarchy (yassss, boo!)

Full Episode Transcript:

Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. If you are a coach and if you're determined to start making more money, this show is for you. I'm master certified life coach Susan Hyatt and I am psyched for you to join me on this journey.

Oh, hey coaches. Most women are starving for pleasure. I know because I used to be one of them. When I ask clients about the most pleasurable moment of their day, they often tune out with a blank stare unable to think of a single thing. Society conditions women not to prioritize pleasure. Instead, society wants us distracted, hating our bodies and keeping our mouths shut. The patriarchy knows that if women have more pleasure, they gain more power. This is a huge problem. Women need more pleasure in their lives and when it comes to creating real change and gaining equality, pleasure is not optional. The only solution is more pleasure. And in today's episode, I'm going to teach you how to get it even if you're completely pleasure deficient. Ready? It's pleasure time.

When I say that women need more pleasure, I don't necessarily mean more sex. Although, listen, having more sex is never a bad thing. In fact, I need to put a link in here to a product that I think will enhance that for you and I'm not paid to say it. Okay. Nevertheless, it'll be an Easter egg hunt in show notes to see if you can find it. Pleasure can mean different things to different people. You might find pleasure in entertainment like books, movies, or binge-worthy TV shows. You might find pleasure in nature, through hiking like I do every Sunday, camping.

Listen, I did years of camping when my kids were little, I think when Ryan was about 12, I was like, "Okay, no more. I'm done." Birdwatching or gardening, which is one of my current favorite pleasures, tending to my garden. Nothing gives me a serotonin boost like smelling the roses that I planted. Maybe you find pleasure in moving your body. You might enjoy a calming yoga practice or a heart-pounding boxing class. I get a daily dose of pleasure on my Peloton sweating along with Cody Rigsby and Robin Arzon.

I just celebrated 700 rides and that's 700 doses of pleasure. Pleasure can come in all sorts of forms: writing, cooking, snuggling your pets, savoring meals, whatever you like. There's no judgment in pleasure. Whatever pleasures you enjoy, I am pleading with you to become woman who prioritizes pleasure. If more women experienced pleasure on the regular, just imagine how much our world would change. We would have more energy and brain power to show up fully and authentically as our best selves. We would set and uphold stronger boundaries erasing the invisible workload that sucks nearly all the pleasure from our day.

We would show up stronger with a clear mind and stand firmly in our power as we fight for what we believe in. I speak from experience. There was a time when my life was a vicious cycle of crunching over a computer screen, racing around from appointment to appointment and ignoring my family even on some holidays. The only pleasure I got from that time was in a wheel of brie and a loaf of crusty bread that I would enjoy before passing out on the couch. That was not a life and I certainly wasn't showing up as my best self. I was burnt out. I was miserable, depressed, and honestly, pretty disappointed in myself.

Once I made the shift to prioritizing pleasure, everything changed and you can start really small like I did. And even a tiny dose of pleasure can make a powerful difference in your day. Your entire perspective begins to shift. Your mind and body will thank you. Listen, I'm serious about pleasure because I know that without it we let the patriarchy win. In fact, I'm so serious that I devote one day every single week entirely to pleasure. And I call it ... Fun Friday. Fun Friday rolls out exactly as it sounds. Susan wakes up and has fun.

Listen, years ago, my friend, Jackie Gartman introduced me to something she referred to as Fun Friday. I was like, "What?" I would be working all day on a Friday and she would say, "It's Fun Friday." And for her, that meant usually like lunch with her girlfriends and going on a hike like doing whatever she wanted. And so I was like, "How does one adopt Fun Fridays?" And I started small. I started with a Fun Friday coffee in the morning like going to an actual coffee shop and having coffee with someone.

And then over time I started blocking off my schedule so that it was a half day. And then a full day. When I brought up this concept to a client a while back, she was deeply disturbed. She couldn't imagine carving 15 minutes of her day for pleasure, let alone a whole entire day. But once I convinced her of the merits of pleasure, because listen, our bodies are wired for pleasure from head to toe. We come into this world wired for pleasure, and we just have it so backwards that we deny ourselves pleasure until we've jumped through enough hoops, we've earned it.

And for women, there's never enough hoops. There's a never-ending to-do list, the invisible workload so screw that. Dessert first, pleasure first. Once I convinced this client to give it a shot, she decided to give it a test drive and she's been hooked ever since. And what happened for her is what happens to most people who adopt a Fun Friday is that they actually end up getting, I get more done Monday through Thursday than I ever did when I worked Friday. And it's not though about productivity. It's about honoring all the other parts of you that deserve a day.

So I'd love for you to create your own Fun Friday, but it's not enough to say it. You've got to take action and do it. So I recommend choosing one Friday, maybe even next Friday and plan a ridiculously fun day. Clear your calendar and keep Fun Friday like it's an important doctor's appointment and then make your Fun Friday plan. I don't recommend just scribbling I will have fun in your planner and calling it a day. If you do that, it's likely you'll wake up on Fun Friday, start to scroll social media suddenly get inspired to work and then four hours go by and you're hunched over your laptop again.

You've got to plan it out. Plan out your fun. So think of it like a trip itinerary for your favorite destination. Plan your outfit, your breakfast, your workout, your pampering. Pick a book, head to a new park or beach, meet up with friends, cuddle with your spouse in bed for an extra hour, whatever you'd like. But I want to encourage you to indulge in what feels like fun for you because it doesn't have to feel like a party. I mean, for me, honestly, a lot of Fun Fridays I'm sitting in my favorite chair with my cat Moses reading a book and doing nothing.

But before I wrap up this little pep talk, let's make a pleasure pact. I want you to repeat after me. I will infuse at least one dose of pleasure into every single day starting now. Time to get after it, ladies. When it comes to pleasure, it's go time.

All right, it's time for community wins. And y'all know I love to brag on you and I love to brag on me too. So if you didn't listen to last week's episode, it's all about changing the way you think about bragging from bragging to advocating. And I'm going to brag and advocate for somebody I have talked about multiple times on this podcast and it's Angela Mascenik, but she just keeps serving up stuff to brag about. It makes it so easy.

Now here's the thing. This episode's about pleasure and what can happen when you start prioritizing your pleasure, and Angela is actually a really great example of somebody who took that to heart. Like you've heard me talk about how she raised her rates and how after last year's Finish Strong, she made all this money. So in addition to working less and taking more vacations than she's ever taken, she posted for us and we'll put this screenshot in the show notes that one year ago so she literally just posted this a couple days ago, we had our one year anniversary to Angela saying yes to me and to the mastermind.

She writes, "I had just crossed over the $200,000 mark in my business for the previous 12 months. Exactly one year later, I crossed the $500,000 mark at $574,000 for the past 12 months. Needless to say, I'm so thankful to have had this time with this group feeling supported and safe as I navigate the growth and pain that comes along with going big in my business. And I'm also happy to commit to another year with the mastermind saying yes to all of it again. I cannot wait to see what I'll post one year from now."

And listen, I know what's in store for Angela over the next 12 months. I mean, listen, from 200K to 574K I would say that's a pretty big increase. Working less, prioritizing fun. This stuff works. So if you're listening to this and you're like, "Wow, like I'd love to make any money or I'd love to uplevel like that." We're going to put details in the show notes about On the 6 Mastermind or the higher level mastermind, which is the one Angela is a part of and we celebrate pleasure. We celebrate fun. I always say self-care is a business plan and pleasure is a huge component of that. So check out the show notes and we would love to chat with you.

If you like this episode, please subscribe so you get notified when new episodes of Rich Coach Club are available, and my heart would completely burst open if you left me a review on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Amazon, wherever you're listening. This week, I want to give a special shout out to someone who calls themselves Race to be Free. And this five-star Apple Podcast review is entitled Massive Action. "I've been listening to Susan Hyatt since 2011. Oprah had just ended her show and I needed that same genuine strong female leadership in my day." Okay, I'm pretty flattered. Thank you.

"Susan was and is consistently happy and positive during the tough times. Back then, some of my followers would wear me down with negativity and envy, and listening to Susan's shows would build me back up until I eventually learned how to stop the cycle. I thank the stars for Susan Hyatt every day. She is a lifeline to those of us, with a mission to help others and businesses to improve our own success and joy in the world. Offering loads of free instruction along with paid content, Susan incorporates her real life experiences and scientific details to provide the tools we need to follow our own vision. She is a coach of coaches, a gale of fresh air and an example of what it's possible for all women in an unfortunately still mostly male-dominated country. She is funny and sincerely interested in how to make a difference in the lives of her listeners and the world."

Oh my God, this is so beautiful. "How to Take Massive Action is one of my favorite episodes that I return to at least once a week to keep my stamina up while claiming my right to my own concentration time. We all need what we need. And Susan unapologetically teaches us how to get it. Love, love, love her." Oh my gosh, thank you, Race to be Free. That means so much to me. And for all of you listening, if you leave me a review, I promise that Mork & Mindy will send tons of doggie kisses virtually your way.

One more thing before you go. Are you so devoid a pleasure that you're not even sure what feels pleasurable to you? I want you to set aside 10 minutes and make a list of what feels pleasurable. These can be small luxuries, not huge sweeping Beyonce private jet levels of pleasure. But listen, I'm not opposed to that either, but when you're in the pleasure deficient mode it can be helpful to start with a manageable burst of joy. Time to treat yourself.

And I'm telling you right now, listen, my Fun Friday, I'm recording this on a Wednesday so I'm late, a little late for my team. But anyway, I'm recording this on a Wednesday. My Fun Friday is in 48 hours. And can I just tell you that my Fun Friday, I already have my sweats identified and picked out. I have a massage and a facial booked. I have a brand new book that's fiction and I'm looking for Netflix series suggestions. I recently watched Maid, M-A-I-D, highly recommend. But listen, I'm going to do nothing and talk to no one, and enjoy the hell out of myself. So get your pleasure list together. It's go time.

Enjoy The Show?

XOXO,
Susan
